“Supersam + 1” is a series of master performances. The project focuses mainly on music, however, it also includes other forms of expression such as: performance, multimedia, monodrama. “Supersam + 1” will present respected Polish and foreign artists whose work is original, experimental and innovative.
“SUPER” in the title means that the programme will be based on renowned artists – masters.
“SAM” (from Polish, means „alone”, "by himself/herself") refers to the solo performances as well as the creative loneliness.
“+ 1” in the title means that each evening will be crowned with a duo performance. In most cases, the artists will meet on stage for the first time.
The idea of the name “Supersam” in relation to solo concerts was conceived by clarinettist Jerzy Mazzoll, who organised a series of concerts in Plama club in Gdańsk. The place used to be a local self-service grocery shop that was in 80/90’s was called “supersam”.
Later, in 2013, the project under the name “Supersam” was organised in Bydgoszcz in Mózg. In 2015, during the Warsaw part of the 11th Mózg Festival, a part of the programme was a series of solo concerts. The programme was created in a way that each evening contained two solo performances.
An idea was born to match the artists, who have never played together before, in duos. For many of them, meeting on stage was also the first meeting in their lives.
In 2016, the first edition of the project entitled “Supersam + 1” took place. 16 artists presented themselves then. Further 3 editions will be organised in the years 2017-2019.
Each evening includes a performance of one artist from abroad and one from Poland.
All invited artists will present their premiere works that have never been performed before. The duos themselves will also be premieres since the artists will be performing together for the first time and creating the newest possible pieces.
Video recording of all activities and production of documentary films constitute the additional part of the project, which aims at presenting the artists in a close-up.
“Supersam + 1” will be entirely broadcast by PR2 of Polskie Radio.

was born in 1942 in Zaandam. He is a visual artist as well as drummer par excellence. Often the two talents converge, when he performs at his exhibitions. His first percussion instrument was a kitchen chair, and as of late he has returned to the simple instruments and often performs only on a snare drum. His curiosity with regard to sound has led him to engage in successively more exciting explorations with wood and wind instruments and collaborations with other musicians, expanding the jazz context in the direction of European improvised music. Today more than ever before, Bennink understands how to swing in the traditional way and to master the free jazz sound, as well as to generate collective gusto for playing with his musical partners. Along with Misha Mengelberg, Willem Breuker and Peter Brötzmann he has played a vital role in the genesis of European free jazz and his Han Bennink Trio has produced surprising insights into the jazz experience and improvised music.
is a guitarist, percussionist and composer born in 1963 in Bydgoszcz. He studied Medicine and Philosophy and then composition with Bogusław Schaeffer. He is one of the founders of the so-called yass scene. He worked with such musicians as Ryszard “Tymon” Tymański, Mikołaj Trzaska and Kazik Staszewski. He played on the cult record “Rozmowy s catem” with Kazik and Mazzoll & Arythmic Perfection. Bands Gwinciński / Richter / Skolik, Łoskot and Mazzoll Arhytmic Perfection are among his frequent collaborators. Gwinciński is also the author of theatre music and music producer.

plays the clarinets and electronic media. He started learning to play on his own at the age of 23 inspired by John Zorn (Masada) and the phenomenon of yass music. For a decade he was active in Poznań, where he co-founded Enterout Trio, Yazzbot Mazut, Tfaruk, Tsigunz Fanfara Avantura or Lentoid. For four years he has been living and working in Warsaw. He is an active member of Warsaw Improvisers Orchestra as well as Cukier, Melech, Śmierć i Łzy, Mełech/Mazurkiewicz/Trilla bands and duos with Marcin Albert Steczkowski, Wojtek Kurek, Qba Janicki and Vitaly Appow.
is a multi-instrumentalist, composer and improviser. a guitarist, soundartist and philosopher, is a very active player on the German and international arena of improvised music. He plays the guitar with his hands and plectrum but also with a lot of diferent objects: screws, rulers, iron wool, violin bow, abrasive paper, magnets and many other objects which are part of his musical vocabulary. The result is his very own world of sounds, which is using the rich potential of the guitar as a creator of sounds. The manual creation is a very important character of this sound world, which never gets distorted by the use of electronic efects. Moreover soundart (sound installations, site specifc instruments, conceptual compositions for improvising musicians etc.) and the collaboration in diferent interdisciplinary settings (dance, installation, video art etc.) are an important focus of his art and form a second emphasis besides the work as a guitarist. Here diferent ideas from the world of philosophy (especially Wittgenstein, Rorty, Heidegger etc.) come into play with his musical aesthetics and form a discursive feld that opens up artistic possibilities that lie beyond the possibilities of common musical practice.
is a sound artist born in 1985 in Bydgoszcz. He is a member of bands such as T’ien Lai, Alameda 5 or an ephemeral duo Mina. He plays synths, organs, samplers, effects, drum machines and percussions. From time to time he is also a singer and author of lyrics. He collects old record with music from Africa and Asia. He is interested in field recording. In 2017 together with Rafał Kołacki and Elżbieta Schulz he released a collection of field recordings from Marrakesh. Since 2016 he has been creating music for theatrical plays (“Popołudnie Fauna” directed by Dominika Knapik, “Strach zżerać duszę” directed by Agnieszka Jakimiak).

born in 1979, has been pushing the boundaries with his guitar for the last ten years. Intimately playing the guitar, like a part of his own body, Stian’s expressive playing breaks down the barriers of the electric guitar and bends music, whether it is on his own as a solo performer or with others. He’s a player that can snuggle comfortably with the improv crowd and he can sound more like a machine than man. He webs sandblasted misshapes into a rhythmic weave, which is intricately bafing. His pursuit of new sound is more about fnding expressive possibilities than an end in itself: when he rips it in the upper register, his instrument sings, piercing through the murk like moonlight on the fens.
is a Warsaw based electronic music producer and his journey started in 1983. He keeps away from clichés and amazes with sound. To him, music has no limits. He performed on Warszawska Jesień and on the biggest electronic music festivals. He balances on the junction of genres and has been developing his own musical language for many years. His creative process always begins with improvisation, which reveals the essence of the musical structure. He experiments and does not shy away from working with other artists. He played with Krzysztof Knittel, Jerzy Mazzoll or Andrzej Karałow. With the latter, he recently recorded an album for a Warsaw based label Requiem Records. He is the first Polish artist, whose piece was used by Depeche Mode in their worldwide tour. He is the second Polish artist, whose records were released by Sven Vath's legendary Cocoon Records label.
is a composer and musician residing in Berlin. His compositions are multi-layered narratives populated by an ensemble of sonic entities; some are smug, some shy, some are agitators and others are ready to surrender. Often there’s a tragiccomical touch, like a cartoon version of what could be a requiem from a dream (or just as much as a fertility dance from another dimension). Recent works include the cycle “Traditional Music Of Notional Species” released across two volumes on PAN, and a multi-part work called “Based On A True Story” that derives scores from historical occurrences in a sort of “sonic staging” in this context, he is currently commissioned by New York-based ensemble Alarm Will Sound and Derlin string ensemble Kaleidoskop. Rashad is mainly active as a solo artist but fnds himself in a series of permanent collaborations alongside —, Moritz von Oswald and as a member of the formation Moleglove. Other and more sporadic collaborators have been Okkyung Lee, Andre Vida, Ashley Paul, and Valerio Tricoli.
is a pianist, composer and visual artist. She founded bands such as J=J, AuAuA and recently her own trio with Maks Mucha on double bass and Maks Andrzejewski on drums. She has been working with Wojtek Mazolewski for eight years. She also performs contemporary classical music with Lutosławski Piano Duo and Mischa Kozłowski. When she performs solo she plays at the junction of electronics and acoustic music, improvising on the piano in a classical way as well as introducing original sounds of carefully prepared samples. She does not shy away from synthetic sounds. Joanna has played hundreds of concerts solo or as a member of many bands. She also composes and produces music for theatre pieces (Krzysztof Garbaczewski or Teatr Amareya).
